Victor McLean / Greensboro, NC, been here for 31 years
In the mid 90’s I worked for Warner Music Group’s distribution arm called WEA. Miami was an important market for music then with the largest music wholesaler Bassin Distributors here, Peaches was based here, Blockbuster Music here. and Spec’s Music were all here. We had our annual Christmas dinner at Joe’s in 1995 and I remember finding out that a TV commercial was shot that night. Only I didn’t know it until dozens of people came up to me for several years afterwards and said they saw me in the Joe’s TV commercial. To this day I’ve never seen it, but I’ve been assured by people of unquestioned honesty and integrity that they’ve seen it. 🙂

I grew up in Ft. Myers. After college I worked for Burdines Department Store as a buyer and lived in Miami. My father would come to Miami for the boat show almost every year when I lived there and he would take me and a group of my friends to Joe’s. Or if he was on his way to his house in the Keys, he would have me meet him at Joe’s. He loved Joes! Any reason to go to Miami so we could go to Joe’s! My father passed away 2 months ago in Sept. 2019 and this weekend we are headed to his house in the Keys to spread his ashes where he loved to be. My family and I will be driving down from Virginia, where we live now, and I have decided we have to stop and have lunch at Joe’s on the way to pay homage to my dad, who LOVED Joe’s! I only wish the main restaurant was open for lunch on Sunday!

Joe came to my first wedding, a good friend of my dad. Joe was a lovely person. My wedding gift from Joe was my honeymoon in Florida, as well as the most magnificent meal at Joe’s Stone Crab. I will never forget it. Joe is in my prayers each day now and forever.

We have been going to Joe’s since 1968 when our kids were young around 3/6. When asked their favorite place to eat most kids said McDonald’s, ours always said Joe’s. That was good until they started wanting their own order of stone crabs and did not want to share and always ate them all.
Joe’s has always been our favorite place to eat and now our grandchildren think so too.
Our kids get stone crabs for their birthday from take out since they do not live in Miami.

New Years without Joe’s Stone Crab would not be New Years. I can’t remember, but I think I have ordered for the last 20 or so years. I wanted to celebrate New Years. The best way to do this was to make sure I had Joe’s stone crab claws to eat and a French sparkling wine to drink. They are steamed perfectly and so sweet. Sometimes I get the cream spinach, rich and delicious. The best New Years party for one.
Don’t have a photo on file but one in my photo album, thought better to take a photo after all those years so I could remember how nice it was to be able to eat at least once a year stone crab claws. Always delivered on time.

My best memory was when my co workers exchanged Secret Santa gifts and I gave each a $20 gift card to Joe’s. They have lived in Miami most of their lives, but never been to Joe’s. We agreed to go together to Joe’s during lunch. They were all impressed by the service and general splendor, atmosphere, and customers at the restaurant. Great time had by all, and was complimented for my great choice of gifts.

When we were dating, my husband and I had our first vacation together in Miami and I introduced him to stone crabs at Joe’s. Every year after that, we would order stone crabs from Joe’s to be shipped to us for New Year’s Eve and would look forward to that for weeks! Well, in 1997, our order was placed well in advance. Much to our surprise, I went into early labour with our twins, who were born on Dec. 30th. Needless to say, our claws arrived promptly on the 31st as ordered, so we celebrated New Year’s Eve, and the birth of our girls, at the hospital with the entire Labor and Delivery nursing staff, enjoying a delicious meal of stone crab claws from Joe’s. We used surgical instruments as utensils too. I bet the cleaning staff is still finding bits of shell in corners of that hospital room!

Ever since my parents divorced, we’ve always gotten together as a blended family at Joe’s for our Festivus Pre-Christmas celebrations on December 23rd. It is something we all look forward to every year as it is difficult for us to all get together since many of us have moved away throughout the years. I’ve been coming to Joe’s since I was a little girl and I truly believe it is the best place to celebrate!

Each year I order crabs for my son who is in the army. For his birthday, the stone crabs have been a family favorite after having received them as a gift for Christmas. So each year I call and send an order of crabs to our son and his wife since they can never get away and come home for his birthday. I will be calling soon!

My husband has been eating at Joe’s since he was a little boy (we are both 74 now). His family would always spend a week in Miami during the winter and eat at Joe’s several times. We have been married 53 years and my husband introduced me to Joe’s the first year we were married. We always spend a week in Miami for the boat show in February and eat at Joe’s 5-6 times (lunch and dinner) while we are there. There is no other restaurant in Miami that is better than Joe’s!!!🥰🥰
